Rocks at Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful spot to stop and visit as you travel in Nevada or California. The calm water and stunning sky will make your stop or detour worth it.

 

We visited Crystal Bay where there is public beach access. There is a small fee to park in the official parking lot, but you can also park in the little community too.

The water was cool and refreshing during our visit in May. I imagine it feels even better during the hot summer months! Most of the beach is rocky and you can find interesting wildlife among the large rocks. We saw many birds and even a tiny snake when we moved one of the rocks.

Colorful Barn in the Snow

Brightly colored barns stand out so nicely against the fresh, white newly fallen snow. Driving through the countryside on a winter day can be so peaceful. The crisp air, quiet farms, fresh blanket of snow, beautiful animals, majestic towering mountains, and colorful barns combine to create a relaxing excursion.

Sunset Palm Trees at Cabrillo Beach

Sunset is always a beautiful time of the day, but add in the beach and it is just a bit more special. Walking along the soft sand and listening to the waves crash as the sun sinks lower is amazingly peaceful.

When we visited California last November, we took a trip to the beach at sunset. We visited Cabrillo Beach in the San Pedro area. The beach was emptying for the day and we had the harbor side and ocean side to ourselves.

Sunburst Through the Trees

While walking along the river trail in our town, I took a moment to look up through the trees. The sun was shining down through the leaves and I loved the sunburst that came through in this photo.

Sunset Rays Through the Clouds

Sunset is one of my favorite times of day. You never know what colors will be in the sky or what light will be like reflecting on the clouds. Every once in a while I drive to nearby farms to be able to have a clear view of the sunset. This day it was cloudy and I happened to capture the last rays of the sun breaking through the clouds.

Sunsets have always been special to me. I remember going to my grandma's house as a child and looking through her many photo albums, over and over again. They were filled with family memories, photos of Mt Raineir, and many sunsets. I guess it's not too much of a surprise that I have a love of taking the same type of photos.

During the summer, I am usually outside at sunset. Watering my garden, going on a walk with the family, visiting the local shaved ice shack for a nice cool treat, or driving around looking for the perfect spot to look at the sky change colors. If I happen to be inside, my children pop inside to let me know I'm missing a pretty pink and orange sky. It's nice to see that my love for sunsets has been passed down to a new generation.

A Rainbow and A Surprise Adventure

Sometimes it is the little unexpected things during an adventure that can make it memorable. Isn't that the exciting part about adventures though - when going through life, you never know what will make a lasting memory. Last night, that unexpected happening was my shoes.

I'll admit, shoes are not the topic you might expect when coming to a photography blog. Nevertheless, that's our topic for today. Read my tale and learn from my mistakes.

Yesterday, we had rain all day long, the kind of rain that makes me miss western Washington. My family went out to run an errand while I stayed home editing photos. My husband called to say that there was an amazing rainbow and I had to come out to see it. I slipped on the first pair of shoes I could find and ran out to the truck to chase a rainbow.
